Fall + Apple = Apple Pie Season! The easiest 5 ingredient apple pie recipe!

Baking season has started here at Country Chic Homes. My first pie of the season, an apple pie! It was so delicious & a great way to welcome the season.


In today's post, I will share with you an easy apple pie recipe with only 5 ingredients plus your crust. I prefer to use an already prepared, unbaked pie crust to save time. I usually buy from Trader Joe's. Last year, I only was using crusts from TJ. I wasn't too happy with the consistency of the dough as it was pretty thin & after it defrosted, I had to roll the piece back together as it came apart easily. I use one of my rolling pins to get a smooth dough. But this year, I was a Target & grabbed the Pillsbury Ready-to-Bake Pie Crust & I love it! It's so easy to work with. I will continue to use the PB. Of course, if you prefer to make your dough, go right ahead.

Apple Pie Recipe

I like to use Granny Smith when baking apple pie, as it has the perfect tartness. I let them sit for a few days in our fruit basket to ripen & be on the softer side. Another apple that I use is Gala; they're mildly sweet & will give your pie a sweeter taste. When I use Gala, I don't let them ripen as much as the Granny Smith. But this year, I was lucky enough to have freshly picked apples from my cousin's trees in Healdsburg. Her trees are so full the branches are tipping over! I'm sure I will make a trip soon to pick some more!

I like to fill my pie crust to the rim of the crust; I love a full pie! If you slice your apples thin, you will not need to pre-cook the apples.

Since the season has arrived, I have gone through my pantry & have stocked up with my main baking ingredients. Anything open has been tossed. I try to remember to write the date on dry goods when they're opened. I keep everything in their containers, so they're clearly marked. Even with my flour & sugar, I make sure that they're securely closed tightly. This is to keep them fresh of course. Although I go through flour & sugar pretty quickly, it definitely helps prevent any mess. I use wooded clothespins to close them after rolling down the opening. I do a few rolls down by one roll, bringing in the corners, then the final roll & secure with the clothespin. Since I use Ready-to-Bake crusts, I buy those as I need them & want them to be fresh.

The Ingredients of The Pie

  1. 8-10 medium apples peeled & thinly sliced.

  2. Granulated sugar ONLY 3 tablespoons! Yes, this pie is not only easy but low in sugar!

  3. Cinnamon 1 to 2 teaspoons, your preference

  4. Butter approximately 2 tablespoons

  5. One Egg

Preheat Oven to 450


The Making of The Pie

  1. Mix in a large bowl the first three ingredients.

  2. Place your uncooked pie crust in a 9" pie plate.

  3. Fill the pie plate with your apple mixture.

  4. Place small pieces of butter on top of the apple mixture. I like to place in the middle, & on the sides

  5. Top with the second pie crust, crimp the edges with your fingers.

  6. Cut a few slits on top of the pie to allow the steam to vent.

  7. Mix in a small bowl the egg white with one tablespoon of water. Brush on top of the pie.

  8. Sprinkle sugar on top (optional)



The Baking of The Pie

  1. Bake at 450 for the first 15 minutes.

  2. Reduce the heat to 350 & continue to bake for an additional 30 to 40 minutes.

  3. Once the top crust is golden brown & you can see the apple mixture through the slits bubbling, remove from the oven & cool for 10 minutes before serving. For a firmer served pie, serve completely cooled. You can quickly warm it up in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Serve with vanilla bean ice cream & mint.

The Storage of The Pie

Haha, there won't be! But if there is, you can cover it & store it in the fridge for up to five days, but here at CCH, that is never the case. Pies & desserts only last till the following morning.
